Performance. 35 minutes
During the Cultural Revolution of Maoist China, educators like the artist’s great-grandfather and grandfather were hauled in for denunciation rallies (批斗大会), where they would be publicly shamed and beat up. The artist’s parents, when recalling their childhoods, speak of countless tragedies and long-buried memories. This performance hopes to offer space for mourning and for the artist to reconcile with traumatic family histories.
Performed at One Night Only, LASALLE College of the Arts. October 2022.
